Japanese Skimmia
(Skimmia japonica)
Other Names - Shikimi, シキミ, 樒, Skimmia.
Origins - Japan, China, Korea.
Type
Perennial (evergreen).
Hardiness (see References, below) - Zones 7 - 9.
Bloom - Winter, Spring.
Fruit - Fall. Height - Approx. 5 ft (150cm).
Cultivation - Well drained, neutral, to acidic, rich soils in shady locations.
Propagation - By seeds (male plant, e.g. Skimmia japonica Rubella, will be necessary to grow with the female plants,to produce the seed); by cuttings; by layering.
Other - All parts are fragrant! Pretty near white blooms, and red berries.
Its evergreen foliage,makes is a great, year round garden addition.
